2022 Salmon Fishing in Alaska
After a great year last year, we were excited to get back to the Kenai this year. It was worth the wait as we had another productive fishing season! The 2022 salmon fishing season in Alaska brought return customers and new faces alike to Kenai River Charters. We got to enjoy our favorite parts of the season once more, as Alaska never disappoints in natural beauty. Our fishing season was off the hook again this year as well, and that’s all thanks to our customers, family, and the fish.
We love to be on the river in May and June. With the weather starting to warm up and the salmon starting their runs, it really comes to life. King fishing really picks up in June as more and more fish make their way up the rivers. Catching a King Salmon is an amazing way to wet the line for the first fish of the season. July is always a busy time on the rivers. This is for good reason since the weather is warm and the fishing is hot. By July, the Kenai and Kasilof rivers run full of red Sockeye salmon. Our Sockeye run was a huge success! We got early starts with our customers and many of them caught their limits right away—we like to earn those bragging rights! We also got a look at some amazing wildlife, on top of the fish of course, such as bald eagles, moose, and seals.
August was a big month for us in our 2022 salmon fishing season in Alaska. We welcomed a new fishing buddy to our Kenai River Charters family! The Thorp’s welcomed a new baby boy, Ozzy, in August! Captain Cole held down the fort so we could get some much needed family time together.
One of our personal favorite runs is the silver salmon in August and September. We get to share the cooler weather and high numbers of fish with some of our favorite people—our customers! We are more than happy when we get to provide first time fishers, no matter the age, with the thrill of the catch.
We believe fishing in Alaska on this beautiful river is a must and would make every fishing lover’s dream! Whether you fish with us every year or have never fished before, we want you to have the best experience possible. We love to get our customers as hooked on Alaska salmon fishing as we are and can’t wait to see everyone again in 2023!
