2020 Kenai River Fishing Charter Season

Our Alaska Kenai River fishing charter season kicks off in May each year and we’re always excited to make the trip north. We love the escape to a place that’s wilder than home, where we create a new routine filled with outdoor adventures all summer. Most importantly though–we love to fish. King salmon fishing is why we (and most of our customers) will return year after year. There’s nothing like reeling in a monster King on the Kenai river on a sunny June day.

This year, the months leading up to our departure were more stressful than exciting. Were we going to be able to go? If so, would we be able to guide? The ever-changing spring COVID-19 regulations made our heads spin and our plans changed day to day. Typically, we travel north in the first few weeks of May so we can get in on the very first run of King’s through the Kenai and Kasilof rivers. With the travel restrictions in place though, we didn’t make it north until mid June. It was disappointing to miss out on some early Kings and also to have a shorter season.

Once we were on the river fishing–we had a great season! It was nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of 2020 and do what we do best. We had many customers travel to Alaska and get in on a year with less river traffic and awesome fishing. The year started with a King salmon run where we once again caught some huge fish. There is nothing like seeing someone catch a salmon that big for the first time.

This year also had an amazing Sockeye run. We had boats of families catching their limits every day, within just a few hours on the river. Sockeye (red) salmon are fun to fish for because there’s a lot of catching! Everyone in the boat stays entertained–even the kids. Our family also made the trip to Alaska during King and Sockeye season, and that made this year even better. We kept everyone busy catching and eating great fish!

As we shifted into late summer after King season was over, the Silver run started and we caught some really bright fish. Silver salmon are beautiful fish that we love to catch in August and September. This year’s run was especially good and we enjoyed sharing that with our customers.

Our Kenai River fishing charter season was changed because of the virus and regulations surrounding it, but we were still able to have a successful year and are grateful we got to go. Thank you to all of our customers who made the trip despite travel restrictions. We are always glad to share our boats with you!
