2021 Kenai River Fishing Charter Season

We love looking back at our Kenai River fishing charter season each year. January rolls around and the Kenai is constantly on our minds, planning another year of salmon fishing guide adventures. Evaluating the year before is a key part of making sure the upcoming season is a success. We are grateful 2021 was one for the books—especially after the roller coaster that was 2020. As summer approached, so did all the hope and anticipation that had built over two years. The season didn’t let us down.

June was an exciting month, our boats were booked as soon as we got to Alaska and we were quickly on the water. It is always fun to reunite with our other guides and start to see returning customers. Year after year we look forward to seeing you in our boats! We fish the Kenai and Kasilof rivers in June, and they both offer unique experiences. The Kasilof was great for Kings and Reds this year. Over on the Kenai we had fun with some catch and release action. June is always unpredictable for weather on the peninsula, you never know if it will be a day of sun or rain (or both!)

July is a special month for the Thorp’s because that’s when the whole family comes to Alaska to fish. Our month is a fun mix of family, friends, and new customers that gives us the energy we need to get through the rest of summer. As the kids get older we have more and more fun in the boat and exploring. I’m already looking forward to the sunny days of July 2022. This past July was something special though, with a record setting run of Reds. Once mid-July hit we started catching daily limits—and didn’t stop until mid-August. Add in all the catch and release Kings and it turned into an excellent month.

August is a unique experience on the Kenai Peninsula. The mornings are a little colder and as the month progresses you can really start to feel the whispers of fall. There is something neat about August that we really love though. The changing weather paired with high numbers of fish, it feels like Alaska should. August also brings Silvers. These beautiful fish are fun to catch and definitely something to see. If you’ve never fished with a Kenai River fishing charter in August—let’s get you booked for 2022.
